The update eliminates fall damage, allows unlimited sprint while the pickaxe is out, and adds glider redeploy from any tall object.

A dedicated utility slot exclusive to Zero Build will also be added, marking the first time the mode has received its own separate balance update since its debut in 2022.

What’s Changing in Zero Build

All changes will be active for the final three weeks of Chapter 7, Season 2.

Key additions include:

These are the most significant structural changes to Zero Build since its introduction.

Quotes from Epic Games and Analysts

“After careful consideration of player feedback, we’re experimenting with these changes to see if they better suit the flow of Zero Build,” said an Epic Games spokesperson.

Game analyst Dr. Kimura, who studies battle royale trends, noted: “This is a major pivot. Zero Build has always been an afterthought to building mechanics, but these adjustments finally give it its own identity.”

Another expert, streamer and former pro player “Zara”, added: “Unlimited sprint and no fall damage – this will speed up engagements and reduce camping. It could be the shake-up the mode needed.”

Background

Zero Build was introduced in 2022 as a way for players to enjoy Fortnite without the complex building system. Since then, it has largely mirrored the core Battle Royale mode with minor tweaks.

According to Epic's announcement, this overhaul is labeled an “experiment” and may not become permanent. However, many community members believe the changes are long overdue.

The lack of a distinct identity for Zero Build has led to balance issues, where weapons and items designed with building in mind often feel out of place.

What This Means

If these changes stick, Zero Build could become a faster, more movement-focused mode.

The removal of fall damage and unlimited sprint encourages aggressive plays and rotation, while the utility slot gives non-builders more tactical options.

Epic will monitor player data and feedback over the three-week test period.

If successful, future seasons may retain these mechanics or even expand on them.
