Control Crosses 6 Million Sales Milestone; Sequel on Schedule for 2026
Control Hits 6 Million Lifetime Sales, Sequel Confirmed for 2026
Remedy Entertainment has announced that Control has now sold over 6 million copies worldwide, a major milestone for the supernatural action game. The news comes from the company’s January–March 2026 business review, which also reaffirmed that the upcoming sequel, Control Resonant, remains on track for release later this year.

“Reaching six million sales is a testament to the lasting appeal of the Control universe and the dedication of our fans,” said Remedy CEO Tero Virtala in a statement. “We are now fully focused on delivering Control Resonant and ensuring our multiplayer title FBC: Firebreak receives the necessary support.”
The business review also promised continued infrastructure backing for FBC: Firebreak, Remedy’s ill-fated cooperative shooter, though the studio did not provide updated sales figures for that title.
Background
Originally released in 2019, Control became a breakout hit for Remedy, known for its mind-bending narrative and physics-driven gameplay. The game has steadily sold over the years, driven by expansions and frequent discounts on digital storefronts.
Meanwhile, FBC: Firebreak launched in 2023 to poor reviews and weak player retention. Remedy has been working to stabilize the live-service title, though the new commitment to infrastructure support suggests the studio is not abandoning it.

What This Means
For fans, the 6-million-unit milestone signals that the Control franchise remains healthy and that Control Resonant is likely to receive strong marketing and development resources. The sequel, set to release in 2026, is expected to build on the original’s success with a more expansive world and deeper narrative.
But the continued focus on FBC: Firebreak could be a source of concern. Remedy’s resources are finite, and supporting a failed multiplayer game might divert attention from the flagship sequel. Industry analysts are watching closely.
“Remedy is walking a tightrope,” said games industry analyst Dr. Maria Chen. “They need to show commitment to Firebreak to avoid write-offs, but they can’t afford to let Control Resonant slip. The 6 million sales figure gives them some breathing room, but execution will be key.”
